Charity E. Yoro (she/her) likes to call herself “a steward of words and other beings.” Nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Orison Anthology, Charity’s writing has been supported by Kundiman, Tin House, Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC), Sustainable Arts Foundation, and others; her work can be found on The Rumpus, poets.org, Tupelo Quarterly, and in the New York Times’ Tiny Love Stories, West Trestle Review, PRISM International, 14 Hills, Ruminate Magazine, and elsewhere.

Charity’s debut poetry collection ten-cent flower & other territories (First Matter Press 2023) was named the 2025 Oregon Book Award winner for the Stafford/Hall Award for Poetry.

Born and raised on the east side of O`ahu, where she graduated with a bachelors degree in marketing and English, Charity spent the first part of her career abroad—studying in Thailand, teaching in South Korea, and serving in the Peace Corps in Madagascar—before moving to the continent (New Jersey to Northern California to Oregon). She currently lives in the metro Denver area with her husband, two children, and sweet rescue pets, Rumi & Fiona.

An ardent educator who has taught creative writing to preschoolers, university students, and elders, Charity currently facilitates writing workshops for parents/caretakers. She is also a freelance writer & marketing specialist experienced in copyediting, optimizing writing for web and email, performing quality assurance, adhering to brand and accessibility standards, and working with a wide range of clients to develop effective digital content strategies.
